Morning Verse

Morning Verse

In many Amitabha Buddhist and Pure Land centres, the morning practice is to chant either the entire Infinite Life Sutra or the chapters from the sutra that remind us to conduct ourselves properly. Since we do not have an approved English translation and people often do not have the time for a longer chanting session, we can instead perform the following simple ceremony. This morning verse can serve as a gentle reminder to practice the teachings throughout our day.

One standing bow, three full bows, one standing bow

Homage to our original teacher Sakyamuni Buddha.

One standing bow

Homage to Amitabha Buddha.

One standing bow

Homage to all Buddhas and bodhisattvas.
One standing bow, then say:

With the wish to help all beings:
May all my thoughts, words, and actions
be void of attachment and ego.
May they arise from compassion and wisdom.
May they be imbued with patience and joy.

Homage to Amitabha Buddha.

One standing bow, three full bows, one standing bow
